Dairy Farmers of Manitoba (DFM) Update

Milk Supply To stimulate production in the province, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba (DFM) added additional incentive days for December 2018 and January 2019. Unlike quota, incentive days are only available for the month in which they are allotted, and cannot be carried forward in part or whole. Incentive days are utilized once the monthly quota is full. Like the rest of the United States, Louisiana continues to see a decline in the number of dairy operations. There were 186 dairies in 2008; ten years later there are only 85. Producers in three parishes (Tangipahoa, Washington, and St. Helena) account for over 92 percent of the milk produced in Louisiana. Milk production for the 12 months ending in October 31, 2018, was 381 M kg of butterfat (at 3.6 kg of butterfat per hectolitre). On August 1, 2018, Canada had 10,593 dairy farms that owned 969,700 cows (not including heifers).
